SEO Authority Score FAQ's

What's a good website SEO authority score?

From our 10+ years of SEO experience, scores of 20 or higher are most optimal for top rankings in Google search. However, this comes with some key caveats:

  • large metro areas typically require scores of 40 or above to compete
  • highly competitive industries such as "lawyer" and all health care related categories, can require scores of 50 or more

What determines your website SEO authority score?

Two things determine your SEO authority score:

  1. total number of referring domains
  2. the authority of the referring domains

In other words, both the quantity and quality of the backlinks you have pointing back to your website.

And this has really been the case since 1998 when Larry Page and Sergey Brin (founders of Google) published their historic paper called The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hyper textual Web Search Engine (source), which was foundation of Google search as we know it today.
